In our example deployment, we've given Nextcloud and Collabora's servers each a dedicated VM. Instead, we'll guide you through setting up the current stable version 16 snap release of Nextcloud and the more fully-featured Collabora document editing environment on a dedicated server, as this is more appropriately scaleable to the needs of most businesses. This is bleeding edge stuff, so for both this reason and because the OnlyOffice Community Edition it uses supports just 20 simultaneous open documents, we've opted not to use this approach for our tutorial. The latest version, Nextcloud 18 Hub, includes support for an integrated OnlyOffice editing environment on the same server.

For brevity and convenience, we'll be using containerised versions of the software distributed using Snap and Docker. We'll guide you through setting up open source cloud storage suite Nextcloud and Collabora Online, which adds online collaborative document editing to Nextcloud, as well as a few more common business cloud features. Note, though, that you will be responsible for securing and updating the software that runs your cloud, rather than being able to leave that to a third party. That can be a distinct advantage when it comes to data protection and financial services regulation. Minor touch ups would make this the best office suite alternative to MS Office but all of that is mostly cosmetic.Setting up your own cloud services can – in some cases – provide financial savings, but it will certainly provide greater control over the data you're responsible for and the way your users can access it. Thank you so much to the developer because any alternatives I have tried before this were either riddled with ads, required a subscription, or didn’t support the files from libreoffice. Overall it is probably the best thing you will find that supports saving in open formats (odt etc) on an iDevice.
I think this is some weird focusing issue though and is easily to get past mentally. Only hang up is the awkwardness with the spreadsheets where the keyboard will only start working (arrow keys) after you have started to edit a cell. It does take some getting used to coming from an actual desktop / laptop but you can legitimately use this as a replacement if you have a hardware keyboard attached.

I keep my iPad Pro (2017 version) in a laptop shell with a trackpad and keyboard and this app feels very natural when editing spreadsheets and documents. It may not have bells and whistles but this is by far the closest thing you will find to open/libreoffice on iOS or iPadOS. Please find a detailed list of contributors in the credits. This app is made by Collabora Productivity with the help of other companies & volunteers based on LibreOffice Technology.
